For Loot & Glory

A four Viking cooperative game in which players pillage and burn the English coast for loot and glory.

The development goal of the game was to create an experience in which players of any level are capable of playing together while avoiding cases where players are over- or under levelled. New or old, any player should be able to jump in and participate without being unprepared. A traditional levelling system was replaced with a share-able armoury that grew with the player. A player would unlock equipment as they played and could then share it with others when they hosted a game. After a round of pillaging the equipment would return to the host’s armoury. This system meant anyone could jump in and join while still giving a sense of progress to players.

For this game I worked as level designer and assistant game designer. As level design I worked closely together with the Environment artist to work out what the environment would look like and what objects were needed. The level we ended up developing was intended to be a authentic open ended environment with a clear linear path. This was achieved by placing points of interest and relevant game objectives in such a way the player moved to where we wanted them to go.
